Originating from the wild mountains of New Mexico, Zappa hops are a 100% Humulus lupulus var. neomexicanus aroma hop discovered by CLS Farms. This variety has evolved independently, developing its own rebellious aroma and unique flavor characteristics. Named in collaboration with the Zappa family, after the iconic musician Frank Zappa, this hop variety is as counter-culture as its namesake.

When it comes to the flavor and aroma profile of Zappa hops, brewers can expect a blend of spicy aromas with intense notes of tropical fruit, notably mango and passion fruit. These are complemented by hints of citrus, pine, savory, mint, and even Fruity Pebbles. Typically used in late boil additions and dry hopping, Zappa hops are primarily brewed in American IPAs, Hazy IPAs, saisons, Mexican lagers, and other styles that highlight both fruity and spicy qualities.
